Sprite design is like cel animation, it can opperate with minimal tech, but after a certain threshold there is simple (as of yet) no way to circumvent many aspects of the workload in order to produce an authentic replica of the result from those processes. Since high-end 3D unreal engine rigging, modeling and animation/physics work is more conducive to 'automation' or tool assistance than hand drawn frame by frame animation.Įven tho the PS1 era is decades old by now it IS still the PEAK of sprite work.
